Service and Mercy
Here are a few opportunities to get involved in:
Chattanooga Sport Ministries (CSM)
They host soccer leagues and programs for at-risk youth in Chattanooga. This fall their season runs starting this week through Oct 7 and they are still looking for 2 female coaches to coach their 2 girl's teams. For more information, email Claire Settle.
Orchard Knob Elementary
a) Tutoring on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 at Orchard Knob Elementary School. It would be ideal if students can commit to one day a week (and choose either Tuesday or Wednesday, minimum commitment is once a month). Only experience needed is the ability to read and do simple math. The tutoring times will include homework help, academic enrichment in reading and math, and snack time to hang out with the kids. They have excellent "experts" in literacy/reading and math that will be helping equip our volunteers in what methods, tools, materials to use with the kids. If you are interested email Mary Elizabeth Kyle.
b) Also - down the road - November - Basketball season will begin and coaches are needed. There will most likely be four teams (needing 4-5 coaches each). For more information, email Jeff Kyle.
New City Fellowship Tutoring
Email Anthony Griggs or contact by phone at 423-629-1421, ext. 105
ELECT is an after school tutoring and mentoring program. They seek to offer a safe and holistic environment where neighborhood children can grow academically, spiritually, and emotionally. ELECT meets every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at East Lake United Methodist Church. ELECT is especially for students who know Spanish (though not a requirement) and have a heart for Hispanic immigrants.
